18th National Congress on Regional Science and Regional Planning
The 18th National Congress on Regional Science and Regional Planning, organized by the Turkish National Committee for Regional Science (TNCRS) and hosted by Marmara University through the Marmara University Research and Application Center for Regional Development (MABKAM), was held between 10–12 May 2018.
The opening ceremony and congress sessions took place at the Dr. İbrahim Üzümcü Conference Hall and the Faculty of Economics of Marmara University.
The primary objective of the congress was to provide a platform for academics and researchers from various disciplines working in the field of regional science to share their latest studies and expertise, while also encouraging the participation of young researchers interested in regional science and regional planning.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Mahmut Tekçe, Chair of the Congress and representative of the Organizing Committee, delivered the opening remarks. This was followed by a presentation from Prof. Dr. Fatma Doğruel, Director of the Marmara University Research and Application Center for Regional Development (MABKAM), who introduced the center’s establishment, activities, and objectives. Subsequently, Prof. Dr. İ. Esen Yıldırım, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, emphasized the strategic importance of regional development studies for both Marmara University and the Faculty of Economics.
